About the collection
Serrapeptase (also known as serratiopeptidase) is a proteolytic enzyme: an enzyme that breaks down proteins. It is produced by the bacterium Serratia, originally isolated from the gut of the silkworm. For supplements, the enzyme is obtained by fermentation and usually processed into enteric-coated capsules so that it passes through the stomach intact.
What is serrapeptase?
The silkworm uses serrapeptase to dissolve its cocoon. In Japan and Europe the enzyme has been studied since the 1970s, including in the context of recovery after exertion and procedures and the breakdown of proteins such as fibrin. Activity is expressed in SPU (Serratiopeptidase Units). Research is still limited and the results are mixed.

How do you use serrapeptase?
Take serrapeptase on an empty stomach, for example 30 minutes before or 2 hours after a meal, and follow the dosage on the label. Do you use blood thinners, have a clotting disorder, are you pregnant or breastfeeding, or do you have surgery planned? Then consult your doctor first.
