Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the active, body-produced form of vitamin D – it is produced by the skin with sufficient UVB exposure, but insufficiently in the Netherlands and Belgium during winter. The Health Council advises vitamin D supplementation for specific groups: children up to 4 years, elderly over 70 years, people with dark skin, and people who spend little time outdoors. For the broader population, supplementation in the winter months is also advisable.

Vitamin K2 as MK-7 (menaquinone-7) is the long-acting form of vitamin K2 with a half-life of approximately 72 hours – suitable for daily or even less frequent dosing. K2 is essential for the activation of two specific proteins: osteocalcin (bones) and matrix-Gla-protein (blood vessels). The combination of D3 with K2 is often chosen because K2 helps guide the calcium absorbed by D3 to the correct locations (bones and teeth).

Dosage

Take 2 drops (0.1 ml) daily — directly under the tongue or mixed with water, juice, or another drink of your choice. Important: the US label recommends up to 4 drops per intake (and a maximum of 3 times a day) — for the European market, we adhere to 2 drops per day due to the European upper safety limit (UL) for vitamin D of 100 µg per day.

Timing of Use

Take with a meal containing fat for optimal absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Preferably in the morning or with lunch — vitamin D can affect sleep in some people if taken late.

Method of Intake

Drop 2 drops directly under the tongue and hold for 10-20 seconds for sublingual absorption. Or mix with 100-200 ml of water, fruit juice, or another cold or warm drink. Do not add before heating — only afterwards. The MCT base provides a neutral, mild taste.

What is the difference between D3 and D2?

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the body's own form — also produced by the skin upon UVB exposure. Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is a plant-based variant. D3 is absorbed and converted more efficiently by the body than D2 and has a longer half-life. For supplementation, D3 is the preferred form.

What is MK-7 and why is it better than MK-4?

MK-7 (menaquinone-7) is a long-acting form of vitamin K2 with a half-life of approximately 72 hours — suitable for daily or even less frequent dosing. MK-4 has a half-life of only approximately 1 hour, requiring multiple doses per day. MK-7 is extracted from fermented natto (Japanese soybean fermentation).

Why D3 and K2 together?

NO. Do not use if taking anticoagulants (coumarin derivatives such as warfarin/Sintrom, Marcoumar, acenocoumarol). Vitamin K can counteract the effect of these medications. If taking these medications: first consult with your treating physician or thrombosis service. DOACs (apixaban, rivaroxaban) do not interact with vitamin K — nevertheless, consult with a physician.
