Creatine is a molecule naturally present in all vertebrates. The name creatine comes from the Greek word 'kreas' meaning meat. Creatine plays a key role in the energy metabolism of the cell. It is therefore mainly present in tissues that consume a lot of energy, such as skeletal muscles.

Creatine is a semi-essential nutrient. The body can produce creatine itself in the kidneys and liver from the amino acids arginine, glycine, and methionine, but this is not always sufficient to meet the demand. Creatine in food is always of animal origin (meat, fish, poultry). People who eat vegetarian or vegan diets therefore generally have a lower intake. Creatine in supplements is not from animal sources and is therefore suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

How creatine works

Creatine can be converted into creatine phosphate (CP) in muscle cells under the influence of the enzyme creatine kinase. The phosphate group can then be coupled to ADP (adenosine diphosphate), which then forms ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the main energy carrier in our cells. Taking extra creatine to contribute to energy delivery via CP is particularly interesting for short, high-intensity efforts, such as strength training and sprint training.

In addition to contributing to physical performance by supporting energy metabolism, creatine as a supplement also plays a role in supporting the results of resistance exercises on muscle strength. Maintaining muscle strength is particularly important for people aged 55 and over.

Creavitalis® from Alzchem

Creatine monohydrate is the common form in which creatine is present in supplements. A disadvantage of creatine monohydrate is that it does not dissolve well in aqueous liquids. To improve this, the German manufacturer Alzchem has developed a micronized creatine monohydrate, with the brand name Creavitalis®. 'Micronizing' is a production process where particles are made extra small to a size order of micrometers. This ensures greatly improved solubility in water. Creavitalis® is a sister brand of Creapure®.

NZVT-tested

Creatine-CV has been tested for doping according to the NZVT system (Dutch Certainty System for Food Supplements in Elite Sports). Directions for use

As a food supplement for adults, mix 1-2 level scoops (approx. 3.4–6.8 grams) per day with approx. 200 ml of water or another cold liquid. Preferably take in the morning or immediately after exercise. A so-called loading phase (where 20 grams of creatine monohydrate is taken for the first five days) is possible but not necessary. Do not exceed the recommended dosage.

What is a loading phase?

A loading phase means that 20 grams of creatine monohydrate is taken for the first five days to quickly fill creatine stores. This is an option but not necessary.
