Knowledge about the important influence of vitamins K2 and D3 on our health is constantly growing. Therefore, more and more people are using them daily as a supplement to their diet. Vitals Vitamin K2 + D3 consists of vegan softgels with a generous dose of both fat-soluble vitamins, in a base of MCT oil. The softgels are opaque with iron oxide to protect the highly light-sensitive vitamins. Softgels are popular and extremely pleasant to use because they are easy to swallow. Fortunately, softgels are no longer made exclusively from gelatin. They are now also available from plant-based sources (such as tapioca starch from cassava).

The vitamin D3 in this product, branded Vitamin D3V®, is also plant-based. It's derived from algae, not sheep's wool fat (like many other vitamin D3 products on the market). Vitamins K and D work together to get calcium to the right placeVitamin D stimulates the production of certain proteins in the body that depend on vitamin K for their function. These so-called Gla proteins are activated by vitamin K so they can then perform their functions. Important examples are osteocalcin (1) and Matrix Gla protein (MGP) (2). A shared property of these vitamin K-dependent Gla proteins is that they bind calcium. In this way, vitamin K and vitamin D together ensure that calcium from our diet reaches the right places in the body. See Figure 1.

1) Osteocalcin: (also known as 'bone-Gla-protein') is a vitamin K-dependent protein that is produced in bone and tooth tissue and regulates its mineralization.

2) Matrix Gla protein: a vitamin K-dependent protein produced in most soft tissues, such as blood vessels, cartilage, kidneys, lungs, and spleen, as well as bone tissue. MGP (like osteocalcin and other Gla proteins) has calcium-binding properties.

Vitamin K2 and vitamin D3 are the superior formsVitamin K1 is primarily absorbed by the liver and activates proteins involved in blood clotting. Vitamin K2 is also used outside the liver to activate other vitamin K-dependent proteins (such as osteocalcin and MGP). Vitamin K2 (also known as "menaquinone") comes in various forms, the most well-known of which are MK-4, MK-7, MK-8, and MK-9. According to current scientific research, menaquinone-7 (MK-7) is the most effective form of vitamin K2. MK-7 is highly absorbed and remains in the body for a very long time to be effective.

The most common forms of vitamin D (calciferol) are vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Cholecalciferol is produced in the human skin under the influence of ultraviolet light, such as the sun (hence the nickname "sunshine vitamin"). These forms of vitamin D are converted into calcidiol (25-hydroxyvitamin D) in the liver. Calcidiol is converted as needed in the kidneys and other cells and tissues into the biologically active hormone calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D). However, regarding supplementation, it is important to know that in most cases, vitamin D3 appears to be more effective than vitamin D2 in increasing blood calcidiol levels and ultimately calcitriol.

Usage

Take 1-2 softgels daily with a (fat-containing) meal and water. Do not exceed the recommended dosage.

Please note

This food supplement is not suitable for children up to and including 10 years of age. The vitamin K in this product makes it unsuitable for concomitant use with coumarin derivatives (anticoagulants such as acenocoumarol and phenprocoumon).

Plenthera Usage tip

Take the softgel(s) with a meal that contains fat. Vitamins K2 and D3 are fat-soluble and are thus better absorbed. The MCT oil in the softgel also contributes to this.

Why combine vitamin K2 and D3?

Vitamin D stimulates the production of Gla-proteins, which depend on vitamin K for their activation. Together, they ensure that dietary calcium is deposited in the correct places in the body, such as bones and teeth.

What is the difference between vitamin K1 and K2?

How long do 60 softgels last?

At 1 softgel per day, a jar of 60 softgels is sufficient for 60 days. At 2 softgels per day, it is 30 days.

Is the product vegan?

Yes, the product is 100% vegan. The softgel is plant-based (tapioca starch from cassava), the vitamin D3 is from algae, and the MCT oil is plant-based.

Why is the softgel colored?
