About Beauty & More

Written by the Plenthera team (orthomolecularly trained). Scientifically reviewed in May 2026. Last updated: 28 May 2026.

True beauty starts with what you eat, how you sleep, and how you move — and only then with what you apply to your skin. Under Beauty & More, you'll find supplements that nourish the skin from within (collagen, hyaluronic acid, biotin, vitamin C, zinc) as well as natural skincare without unnecessary additives (skin oil, magnesium spray, activated charcoal). The approach is nutritional and scientific: only what demonstrably contributes to skin, hair, or nail health, no vague anti-aging claims.

What does 'skin from within' actually mean?

The skin is the body's largest organ and is constantly renewed. For optimal renewal, specific nutrients are essential: vitamin C for collagen formation, zinc for tissue repair, vitamin A for cell differentiation, biotin for keratin synthesis (skin, hair, nails), and fatty acids (omega 3, omega 6) for the barrier function.

Under the official EFSA claims (Regulation (EU) 432/2012): vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of the skin; biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and hair; zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal hair, nails, and skin; vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal skin.

Collagen — the most sought-after beauty supplement

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and provides structure to skin, joints, bones, and connective tissue. From approximately 25 years of age, natural collagen production gradually declines.

Three types of collagen supplementation

(1) Marine collagen (from fish) — usually type 1 collagen, small peptides, good bioavailability for the skin. (2) Bovine collagen — type 1 and type 3, supports skin and connective tissue. (3) Vegan collagen boosters — do not contain collagen itself, but the building blocks (amino acids, vitamin C, zinc) that support the body's own production.

Research on hydrolyzed collagen (2.5-10 g per day, 8-12 weeks) shows improvement in skin hydration, elasticity, and wrinkle depth (Choi et al., 2019 meta-analysis). Important: collagen has an EFSA claim only indirectly, via vitamin C for collagen formation.

By ingredient — search specifically for active substances

Some consumers search not by brand but by ingredient. Our ingredient pages bundle all products with a specific active substance — useful for those who want to compare, for example, a product with retinol, niacinamide, or hyaluronic acid without first scrolling through all brands.

How do I combine beauty supplements?

Basic stack for skin (from 25+)

Vitamin C (250-1000 mg per day), zinc (8-15 mg), biotin (40-100 µg), sufficient protein intake (1.2 g/kg). Optional: hydrolyzed collagen (2.5-10 g per day).

For hair & nails

Biotin, zinc, iron (especially women), silicon dioxide or bamboo extract, protein intake. For significant hair loss: blood test for iron/ferritin, vitamin D, thyroid.

For broad anti-aging

Combine internal supplementation (collagen, antioxidants, omega 3) with external care (SPF 30+ daily sunscreen, non-comedogenic moisturizer, retinoid at night preferably after 30+). Sleep and stress management have at least as much effect as any product.

Frequently asked questions

Does collagen supplementation really work for the skin?

Meta-analyses from 2019-2023 show statistically significant improvements in skin hydration and elasticity after 8-12 weeks with daily intake of 2.5-10 g of hydrolyzed collagen (Choi et al., 2019; Pu et al., 2023). The effect is moderate, not dramatic.

What is the difference between marine and bovine collagen?

Marine collagen is predominantly type 1 (smaller peptides, good bioavailability for the skin). Bovine collagen provides type 1 and type 3, often in slightly larger molecules. Both work; taste and source (fish vs. mammal) often determine the choice.

Can I get collagen through food?

Bone broth, stewed meat, fish with skin, and eggs provide limited amounts of collagen precursors. For the doses from clinical studies (2.5-10 g per day), a supplement is more practical.

Is biotin really necessary for hair growth?

In case of a true biotin deficiency (rare), supplementation demonstrably improves hair quality. In people without a deficiency, evidence for extra hair growth is limited. Sufficient protein intake and iron status are often more important.

What is hyaluronic acid and is intake beneficial?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule that binds water in the skin and joints. Oral supplementation (120-240 mg per day) shows modest improvement in skin hydration in studies (Oe et al., 2017).

How can I improve my skin from within?

The biggest effects come from: sufficient sleep (7-9 hours), not smoking, sun protection, a varied diet with sufficient protein, vitamin C, and omega 3, stress management. Supplementation is a complement, not a replacement.

Is tallow good for the skin?

Tallow (rendered beef fat) has a fatty acid profile similar to human skin sebum and is an emerging natural alternative to synthetic moisturizers. Works especially well for dry skin; for acne-prone skin, test on a small area first.
